It has been 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story film was released, establishing Pixar as a leading animation studio and bringing audiences to iconic figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a glimpse into the plot but keeping fans curious how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The preview reveals the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a brand new toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser doesn't touch on is what Woody is back with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a carnival and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.

Surely, the filmmakers will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have come back with him. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?

Connections from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (the voice actor), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the badge attached to her shirt.

It is hoped she is remains the driving force among the toys.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
