Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Soldiers Party

Since the launch of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a diverse cast of heroes, and a thrilling plot including divine entities, evil spirits, and malevolent powers growing in power within the urban setting.

Note: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season follow below.

The Warrior Group Introduced

Episode 3 concluded with a dramatic pause and introduced the initial group of characters who will separate from the central cast to undertake their separate journey, apart from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table consists of Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis Willingham), Thimble (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).

The Reason for Division

Considering an extensive roster, it was obvious from the start that keeping everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.

Hence, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Introduction, intertwining the individual narratives before dividing into three smaller tables: Warriors, Planners, and Questers.

The Nature of the Warrior Group

Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for players who are drawn to a typically action-packed battle-oriented gameplay experience where diplomatic options are few and far between.

Initially, characters like the squeamish cleric the cleric might seem unsuited, but the developments of the third episode show why these five characters are ideally matched for the warrior group.

Motivations for Departure

To begin with, the team has a clear idea where to proceed after a brutal first encounter with the enemy group.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose death initiated the narrative’s action—exploited the foes for his personal gain, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the character, and swiping all the magical artifacts to auction.

The traitor then cleared his liabilities and ran away to a secure base in the northern region, north of the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each member has a specific drive to depart Dol-Makjar:

  • The agile hero, as the close ally and best friend, desires vengeance.
  • Kattigan has experience in Timmony and advises that it is a hostile environment.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having resisted his relatives’ demands to eliminate the target and instead rescued him, have no other options.
  • Yet, their status as key figures in House Halovar could help the team enter locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Moreover, The fighter swore a eternal obligation to The cleric for his salvation and will now go with him everywhere.

Fugitives

Finally, all of them are sought by the powers that control the setting for a range of causes, making staying in the city dangerous:

  • The rogue and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and The cleric defied House Halovar and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
  • Teor is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This means them little choice but to journey toward the remote area in pursuit of Casimir.

Future Episodes

From the latest episode’s post-show segment, we discover that the Soldiers table will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight players to round up the Explorers and Strategists parties.

Audiences can anticipate learning which characters will be in which group in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
